Ulix
Terms of Service
Last updated 11 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Axella Research (“we”, “us”), which operates Ulix (Universal Ledger, formerly LedgerWorks), bookkeeping software for businesses and the people who keep their books. By creating an account or using Ulix you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use Ulix for a business, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
Your account
You need an account to use Ulix. Give accurate details, keep your password private, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. We strongly recommend turning on two-step sign-in (Settings), especially for owners.
You can invite other people to a company and choose their role, including keeping client details private from an outside accounting firm. You are responsible for who you give access to and for the access you give them.
What Ulix is — and is not
Ulix is a tool. It records transactions, produces reports, prepares invoices and forms, and offers suggestions. It does not provide accounting, tax, legal or investment advice, and using it does not make us your accountant, bookkeeper, lawyer or fiduciary. You remain responsible for your books, your tax filings, your invoices and your compliance obligations, and for reviewing what you file or send. Consider having a qualified professional review anything important.
AI features. Some features use artificial intelligence (provided by Anthropic) to read documents, categorize transactions and answer questions. AI output can be wrong. Review suggestions before you post or rely on them. Owners and admins can turn automatic AI reading of documents off.
Client trust accounting. The trust (IOLTA) features help you keep client ledgers and reconcile them, and refuse common mistakes such as spending one client's money for another. You remain responsible for complying with the trust-accounting rules that apply to you, including bar rules and reconciliation requirements.
Tax forms. Forms prepared in Ulix (for example 1099s) are prepared from your data. You are responsible for checking them and for filing them correctly and on time.
Trial, plans and payment
New accounts start with a free trial. After it ends, a paid plan is needed to keep making changes; without one, your companies stay readable but become read-only. Plans renew automatically each period until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from Billing & plan; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. Payments for Ulix plans are processed by Stripe. Except where the law requires otherwise, fees already paid are not refunded.
We may change prices or plans. We will tell you before a change affects what you pay, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
Getting paid by your customers
If you accept card or bank payments on your invoices, you do so through your own Stripe account, which you connect from Online payments. Those payments go to your Stripe account, under your agreement with Stripe; we are not a party to them and do not hold your customers' money. Stripe's fees and terms apply.
Your data
You own the data you put into Ulix. You give us permission to store, process and display it only to run and improve the service for you, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can export your reports and documents at any time.
You can delete your account from Settings. Companies only you use are deleted with it; companies you share with others stay with them. Deleted data may remain for a period in our encrypted, access-restricted backups, which exist to recover from disasters.
You are responsible for having the right to put data into Ulix, including information about your customers, your clients and their matters.
Acceptable use
Do not use Ulix to break the law, to defraud anyone, to send spam, to infringe anyone's rights, to upload malware, or to try to access accounts or data that are not yours. Do not try to disrupt, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or get around its limits or security. We may suspend accounts that do.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Ulix available and your data safe, including with offsite backups, but we cannot promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or improve features. If we discontinue Ulix, we will give reasonable notice so you can export your data.
Disclaimers and limits of liability
Ulix is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, and our total liability for any claim relating to Ulix is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Ending this agreement
You can stop using Ulix and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or if we must by law; where we reasonably can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and ask you to accept it. If you do not agree, you can stop using Ulix and delete your account.
